The VNDB API offers metadata for visual novels.

• Rate limiting: 200 requests per 5 minutes

Search by ID

The ID you need is the VNDB visual novel ID.

Finding the ID

1. Navigate to the visual novel page on VNDB
2. Look at the URL
3. The ID is the code in the URL path (starts with ‘v’)

Example

For “Katawa Shoujo”:

• URL: https://vndb.org/v945
• ID: v945

Note: Include the ‘v’ prefix in the ID.

SFW Filter

VNDB supports filtering by content rating, which is useful for excluding adult content:

• The plugin respects the SFW filter setting
• Enable it in the plugin settings if you want to filter out NSFW titles
• This helps maintain an appropriate library for all audiences

Visual Novel Specific Features

VNDB specializes in visual novels and provides rich metadata including:
